Hi,
What's the Maximum amount of money the parents of a h1b person can carry from US to India when they are returning after a visit on B1 visa? I heard it should be a dollar less than $10,000 per person. Somebody told me its $10,000 per party. Please answer this.
So if father & mother both are traveling back from US to India can they carry $9999 each in their hands while traveling through air? It will be $19,998 total for the party in total
While coming to US I heard you don't have to declare the money/currency you are bringing as long as they don't exceed $10,000. So if they are taking most of that money back along with some extra cash (total < 10k per person) is it safe to avoid any questions/complications with US TSA/ CBP?
Have anybody got into problems or delays?

A friend of mine who went to India's premier institution - IIT in India and then to IIM worked for one of the fortune 100 companies here in the US.
He got married and decided to move to UK because his equally qualified spouse being on a dependent Visa could not work due to the obsolete rules.
Both husband and wife are well on thier way to permanent residency in UK.
Doubly bad for the United States!!!

I am on H1B, just filed my GC. I am planning to do a masters degree (i am a B.E now). Any suggestions? I was looking at walden university for online programs. are they any good? Is it worth the money spent??

Education is always a good investment. You may do it for GC or for any other purpose. But my advise would be to pick a good reputed school that you can handle and do something that would help your career.

My wife was on H4 earlier and then she coverted her visa into F1 (student). She got I 20 form from school with her, But She doesn't have F1 stamp on her Indian Passport. She got 2 hour halt in Paris.
Does she need French transit visa ??
I have travelled on Lufthanza several times with stopover at Frankfort. My parents who have a visitor visa to US travelled on Air France with stopover at Paris. In both cases, there was no need for any transit visa. As a general rule, you need a visa only if you are leaving the airport at the stopover Hub.

BTW isn't I-485 for a future job ? How does the current work location matter ?
thats what scared me when i read this thread... so, basically, they are using even the pending 485s to raise issues on 140 etc... this i bad stuff.

Thanks MC thats a valid Point.
There are 2 reasons that I thought of for not applying / renewing.
1) I'm not planning on going anywhere after / atleast for a year.
2) My wife's AP filed last year took Six months to get approved and what happens if you fly out while your AP is pending / sent for renewal. I read in this forum, not fly out, while you AP is pending.
Appreciate your time.

Both of our 485 got RFE. As per CIS website, it was sent on May 20, 2009. Attorney haven't received it so far.
Message says "REQUEST FOR INITIAL EVIDENCE SENT. CASE PLACED ON HOLD".
We send all the initial documents when we filed in July 2007. I have no idea what CIS is asking for.
Any idea?./

It looks like Mr.Obama is Changing the wrong thing, Immigration policy badly needs an update, he needs to fix that first, cool aid wont help.If the roof is broken you need to fix roof, that should be the priority, instead painting neighbours door and putting christmas lights in summer will not fix the problem. Harvard should take his degree back.

Kudos to the core team for their work. These contributions reflect hope and resoluteness in our would-be immigrants, in spite of odds faced in a new country. This is the way to go.
Fund raising should continue, even after we meet the initial goal. We should propagate the word around and seek ideas and cooperation from more future members.
I placed the posters in local Indian Groceries. Tomorrow it is going to be in local temples. I passed on the flyer to an Irish friend of mine. Happy St. Patrick's day to you all.

my wife H4 was denied since it was applied after 2 months of I 94 expiration (july 1,2010)but we also sent the I 94 correction based on my H1B notice untill March 10,2011 since there was mistake at POE in jan 2010. On March 18 we received I 94 correction until March 10,2011. Hence now actual out of status is from march 10,2011. So we decided for her to go to India for stamping. But we also filed for MTR still my attorney adviced us to go to India for stamping since we don't want to cross the 180 day period.

Lets put it this way.
If you already have an H1B and are using your ead just as a back up, then no, you do not have to renew right away, you can re-apply as long as you have copies of your applied I-485 etc.
If you do not have an H1B but you also do not plan to work for a while (in the case of some dependants), then again, NO you do not need to renew right away.
However if the EAD is your PRIMARY document without which you cannot work, but you DO want to work, then YES you do want to renew it before the current ead expires.

EB1= 7,595 + 2,961 ( at NVC) + new applications.
EB2= 45,573 + 6,738 ( at NVC) + Huge backlog waiting in line.
EB3= 114,442 + 102,395 ( at NVC) + unknown backlog waiting in line.
*NVC stands for National Visa Center.
** Does not include service centers.
* Spillover to EB3 may not happen for several years due to a large number of EB2's waiting to submit their 485 applications.
* Even if spillover occurs, majority of them will go to EB3 Philippines (please See the NVC backlog).
* From the above, assuming no spillover to EB3-I, it would take (56,640 + 20,873)/2600=30 years.
* With spillover (lets say after 5++ years due to the pending EB2�s), it may take another 5 to 7 years to clear the EB3 backlog.

Recently while returning, at the POE, I was told that AP is for emergency travel only and was asked the reason for travel. Also he wanted to see our tickets for the onward journey, to make sure that we were not gone for too long.
